reclining vs. non-reclining racing seats?
I’m kind of new to the modified world, but I’m about to start on a project car. I’m getting a 240sx and getting a friend(very skilled mechanic) to help me do the sr20det swap. My question is what are the pro and cons of these 2 types of racing seats. (I’m planning on keeeping the car street legal, but making it something fun and fast on and off the track)
Reclining Pros:
-Most likey not made of nomex. Corbeau is a good seat to work with. Custom colors and what not are available. Fabric and leather and much more durable than nomex.
-Side bolstered reclining seats provide almost just as much side support as a fix-backed seat.
-A lot easier to use the stock belts with the seat.
-Easier to get in and out of
- A lot more comfortable.
Cons:
-Limited support
-Non-FIA or SFI approved (Which may be an issue if you cage the car and want to race it in some clubs).
-Heavy
Fixed Pros:
-SFI or FIA
-Works well with 5th/6th pnt harness
-Ultimate latteral support
-Reclining is possible with side mounts
-very solid seats
Fixed Cons:
-Usually more expensive
-Nomex only last about 6 months on daily drivers
-Don’t work very will with stock belts
-Rather large and take up space
